According to forum posts on the website and elsewhere it looks like the display can turn off. Not sure why it won't for us, must be a bug or something. I mostly leave my home phones in the charging dock anyway. It's just annoying to have the screen always on. Even on the lowest brightness setting, it's bright in a dark room.
